Kato to release Tokyo subway train series
A poster from the recent 3rd Kyoto Rail Expo would seem to indicate that Kato will release a ‘series’ of models of all of Tokyo’s subway system trains !!!
They seem to be doing it in order, so the first release is the Tokyo Metro Ginza line 01 series 6 car set. This is one of the two lines that run 3rd rail, so the cars have a low, flat-topped appearance.
- 10-864 - Tokyo Metro Ginza line 01 series 6 car set – Y16,000 (September 2011 release)
It will have flywheel drive, bogie suspension and of course a special interior lighting system.
Trains on the other lines, and the possible models that could be released are as follows …
- Tokyo Metro Marunouchi line – 02 series 3 car & 6 car sets (virtually the same as the 01 series)
- Tokyo Metro Hibiya line – 03 series 8 car set (already done by MicroAce) – connects & runs with Tokyu Toyoko & Tobu Isesaki lines
- Tokyo Metro Tozai line – 05, 07 & 15-000 series 10 car sets – connects and runs with JR Chuo & JR Sobu lines
- Tokyo Metro Chiyoda line – 5000, 06, 6000 & 16-000 series 10 car sets – connects & runs with Odakyu & JR Joban
- Tokyo Metro Yurakucho line 7000, 07 & 10-000 series 10 car sets – connects & runs with Seibu Ikebukuro & Tobu Tojo lines
- Tokyo Metro Hanzomon line – 8000 & 08 series 10 car sets – connects & runs with Tokyu Den’en Toshi line
- Tokyo Metro Namboku line – 9000 series 6 car sets – connects & runs with Tokyu Meguro line
- Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin line - 7000 & 10-000 series 10 car sets - connects & runs with Tobu Tojo line
The poster only shows Tokyo Metro’s lines, but they may also consider the 4 TOEI lines as well …
- TOEI Asakusa line – 5300 series 8 car set (already done by MicroAce) – connects & runs with Keikyu & Keisei
- TOEI Mita line – 6300 series 6 car set – connects & runs with Tokyu Meguro line
- TOEI Shinjuku line – 10-000 series 8 car set – connects & runs with Keio
- TOEI Oedo line – 12-000 series 8 car set (2 types)
There are also many other older series that are not running now that could be done as well.

The chiyoda line 6000 appears speculatively in the 2012-2013 kato catalog. however, given that Microace has done so many of these, one wonders if Kato will follow. That said, MicroAce as per usual, well under-produced, foolishly, and finding for example a Metro Hanzomon 8000 series is impossible. I’ve bought the Marunouchi 02 and old 300/400, both excellent, and the Ginza 01 series (excellent). The marunouchi old 300/400 may be Kato’s best set in a while – it’s stunning. I’d gladly take a Kato EIDAN Hanzomon 8000 or even better an old Ginza line train, which I think is coming for sure. I regret not buying a Fukutoshin line train when in tokyo as these were available relatively cheap.
Did they give any kind of timeframe for the other series?
Were models from any other manufacturers mentioned?
Thank you for reporting on this!
I have reported all I know so far …..
