2008 Kato catalog is here

The new Kato catalog for 2008 arrived yesterday …

This is their first catalog since 2004, and since then many new items have been released. However the catalog has not increased in size but DECREASED !!! The 2004 edition had 324 pages, but the 2008 one has only 252 pages. Fortunately the price has also decreased from Y1,700 to Y1,200.

The reason for this rather radical change seems to be that the new catalog only shows the more recent releases or other items that are still available or in production, so a good proportion of their past releases are now not shown. I gather this is also because of the recent release of the ‘Kato N Gauge Archives’ book, which does show ALL their products over a 30 year period. I guess the two volumes are meant to complement each other.

Of course all the Unitrack is covered, including the new ‘cant’ track series, as well as all their recent building and figure releases. One change compared to other editions is that there are more prototype photos along with the pictures of the models. Most currently-running trains have a good picture of the real thing, and it is only trains from past years where there is a picture of the model in a diorama setting etc rather than a prototype photo (except some old B/W ones).

Another addition is step-by-step photo pages showing you how to disassemble car bodies, change couplers, add lighting units & detail parts etc.

  2. Thanks Peter – funny how it works on my own PC !!! Thanks to WordPress’s totally $$@$-ed up latest release, it is nearly impossibly to get local pictures to attach to your page, hence the reason I tried to link to Kato directly …

  4. Just letting you know your jpg links to katomodels are not working. You can’t link directly to them. Try putting the addresses into a browser and you get a forbidden message.

Try hosting them locally or just provide links to the catalog pages.

    Peter.
