New Tomix ‘Wide PC’ rail system

Tomix have announced their new rail system, for tentative release in July …

This new system introduces super-elevated curves, I guess in answer to Kato’s similar system released last year. In this case it seems more flexible, with the ability to run a single super-elevated track rather than having only double track. The items being released are …

  • 1731 – Wide PC 140mm straight track x2
  • 1732 – Wide PC 280mm straight track x2
  • 1743 – Wide PC 354mm 45 degree curved track x2
  • 1744 – Wide PC 391mm 45 degree curved track x2
  • 1753 – Wide PC 354mm 22½ degree curved approach track x2
  • 1754 – Wide PC 391mm 22½ degree curved approach track x2
  • 3080 – Wide PC 140mm straight wall set – 3 types (wall, fence, handrail) x 8 each
  • 3083 – Wide PC 317mm inside/354mm outside curved wall set – 3 types (wall, fence, handrail) x 8 each
  • 3084 – Wide PC 354mm inside/391mm outside curved wall set – 3 types (wall, fence, handrail) x 8 each
  • 3085 – Wide PC 391mm inside/428mm outside curved wall set – 3 types (wall, fence, handrail) x 8 each
  • 3090 – Wide PC 140mm straight track pier base x8
  • 3093 – Wide PC 354mm 22½ degree curved track pier base x8
  • 3094 – Wide PC 391mm 22½ degree curved track pier base x8
  • 5538 – Wide slab rail DC Feeder (same as 5537)
  • 5567 – Wide slab rail TCS Sensor (replaces 5566)
  • 0116 – Wide slab rail-to-pier joiner x16
  • 0117 – Wide slab rail-to-pier joiner for super-elevated sections x16

Also being released are the ‘lattice’ type steel overhead wire supports, same as in 3049, but in a single piece, not the assembly type previously offered, and available as single or double track seperately …

  • 3077 – Single track overhead wire support (2 types) x12 each
  • 3078 – Double track overhead wire support x24

The track pieces include clips to join straight or curved sections side by side to form double track, and each section has the facility to add the fence pieces on the outside of the rail.

Don’t ask me what ‘PC’ means, but I am guessing ‘Pre-stressed Concrete’, based on the rail’s sleeper type. These items are all interchangeable with the current Tomix Finetrack system components.

  1. EHh it’s not all that, they’ve only got two radii of curves. Same as a Kato double-track piece. Kato’s already come out with the R281/315, so you’ve got four there…

  2. Very interesting – single track pieces. Wish I hadn’t spent so much on Kato …
